We Are Story Tellers

Whitechapel and Friends Bring Death Metal Mayhem to Montreal

Montreal’s metalheads were treated to a night of unrelenting brutality as Whitechapel took the stage alongside an impressive lineup of supporting acts. With Alluvial, 200 Stab Wounds, and Brand of Sacrifice setting the stage, the night was an unforgettable display of energy, skill, and sheer chaos.

Alluvial: Setting the Tone for the Night

Opening the night was Atlanta-based death metal act Alluvial. Formed in 2017, the band has quickly gained recognition for their intricate guitar riffs and commanding stage presence. While they were the first act of the evening, they wasted no time in engaging the audience. Their early 2024 EP, Death is But a Door, has only strengthened their position in the scene, and their live performance proved they’re here to stay.

200 Stab Wounds: Unleashing the Chaos

Next up was Cleveland’s own 200 Stab Wounds, a band that is no stranger to Montreal. The moment they hit the stage, the atmosphere intensified. With relentless headbanging and a ferocious set, they had the crowd moving, and for the first time that night, crowd surfers began emerging. Fresh off their 2023 album Manuel Manic Procedures, the band proved why they are a rising force in modern death metal.

Brand of Sacrifice: The Anime-Inspired Onslaught

Toronto’s Brand of Sacrifice brought an unexpected yet brilliant touch to their set by opening with the Pokémon theme song—an amusing yet oddly fitting intro. The band delivered an insane performance. Their high-energy set featured crushing breakdowns, perfectly executed vocals, and a seemingly endless wave of crowd surfers. They even ignited a wall of death in the audience. Inspired by anime and manga, their name itself is a nod to Berserk, the dark masterpiece by Kentaro Miura. Their tribute to Canadian deathcore legends Despised Icon further cemented their status as one of the most exciting acts of the night.

Whitechapel: Deathcore Titans Take the Stage

As the headliners, Whitechapel delivered exactly what fans had come for—an explosive, high-intensity performance. Having previously seen them on tour with Lorna Shore, it was clear that their energy had only intensified. They opened with a new track, Prisoner 666, setting the tone for a setlist that blended both old-school favorites and fresh material. With their trademark precision and an impressive three-guitarist lineup, they proved once again why they are one of the most respected names in deathcore. Their lighting setup was impeccable, amplifying the sheer brutality of their music. The band’s frontman demonstrated his incredible vocal range, seamlessly switching between guttural growls and piercing screams.

Montreal’s metal scene has always been known for its passionate fans, and this night was no exception. Between the non-stop crowd surfers, the intensity of the pits, and the sheer musical prowess on display, it was a show that will be remembered for a long time. Whitechapel and company delivered a performance that reinforced why death metal continues to thrive—and why Montreal remains one of its strongest battlegrounds.
