Fit For A King in Vancouver

CONCERT REVIEW: FIT FOR A KING In Vancouver

The Commodore Ballroom was the place to be for Vancouver’s metalcore faithful on what turned out to be one of the heavier nights the venue has seen in a while. Four bands, a sold-out crowd, and a lineup that had fans buzzing well before TEN65, ACRES, and Invent Animate even hit the stage. The openers each did their part in warming up a crowd that was clearly already primed and ready, but the energy in the room made it no secret this was about Fit For A King in Vancouver.

Fit For A King made the trip all the way from Texas, and they brought everything with them. Fresh off their eighth studio album Lonely God. The band leaned heavily into the new material. Building a 15-track setlist that felt very much like a celebration of where they are right now as a band. It was the right call. They opened with “Begin The Sacrifice,” mirroring the album’s own intro, and just like that, the Commodore erupted. Vancouver had been waiting for this, and it showed immediately.

What made the night so compelling was beyond the setlist. The sheer force of presence the band carried from start to finish. Frontman Ryan Kirby owned every inch of that stage, and bassist Ryan O’Leary was locked in all night. Behind the kit was Trey Celaya. A name that drew an extra reaction from fans who recognized him as a former member of opener Invent Animate. It was one of those full-circle moments that only makes a night feel more special. Together, the band fed off a crowd that gave everything back and then some.

The new album tracks landed hard. “Extinction,” “No Tomorrow,” and “Technium” were among the loudest moments of the night. With the floor becoming an absolute wall-to-wall pit during each one. But Fit For A King also made sure the longtime fans went home happy, slipping “Backbreaker,” “God of Fire,” and “Witness The End” into the set. Those songs hit differently in a room that was packed, and the crowd’s reaction to each one was proof enough.

By the time the final note rang out, the Commodore felt like it had just witnessed something worth talking about for a while. Fit For A King in Vancouver put on the kind of show that reminds you exactly why you love this genre. The city delivered, and so did they.
