Day 5 at the Montreal International Jazz Festival: A Star-Studded Celebration of Soul, Jazz, and Joy
The fifth day of the Montreal International Jazz Festival brought together an unforgettable lineup that blended Hollywood charisma, New Orleans funk, and Australian soul. From sold-out theatres to jam-packed outdoor stages, the city pulsed with energy, spontaneity, and world-class performances.
Whether it was cinematic jazz or high-octane brass, the night reminded festivalgoers why this event remains one of the most beloved on the global music calendar.
Jeff Goldblum & The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra – A Charming, Jazzy Masterclass
As fans entered the venue, Jeff Goldblum was already on stage, effortlessly chatting with the crowd in his signature quirky, charming manner. Best known as an Oscar-nominated actor and iconic star of Jurassic Park, Goldblum proved he’s just as skilled a musician as he is an entertainer.
Backed by the talented Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, the group delivered smooth jazz arrangements with warmth and flair. Jeff’s joy was infectious—genuine, grateful, and utterly entertaining. It wasn’t just a jazz set; it was a fully immersive experience led by one of Hollywood’s most endearing personalities.
Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue – A New Orleans Party in the Heart of Montreal
Over at the TD Stage at Place des Arts, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue lit up the night. The Louisiana-born bandleader brought an electrifying performance, blending funk, soul, jazz, and unstoppable energy. At one point, Shorty climbed up to the side stage speakers for a blistering solo, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
His vocals were just as compelling as his brass playing—smooth, emotional, and commanding. The entire set felt more like a street party than a concert, turning downtown Montreal into a slice of New Orleans magic.
Nai Palm – A Soulful, Intimate Gem at Club Soda
Australian artist Nai Palm, best known as the frontwoman of Hiatus Kaiyote, gave Club Soda a heartfelt solo performance. Armed with her Flying V guitar and a uniquely jazzy, bluesy voice, she filled the room with vulnerability, strength, and style. As she danced around on stage, you could tell she was genuinely having a great time.
Her soft-spoken songs resonated with the crowd, making the performance feel like a special, intimate treat in the midst of a busy festival night.
Closing Thoughts
Day 5 was a vibrant reminder of the diversity and depth the Montreal International Jazz Festival brings each year. From the magnetic charm of Jeff Goldblum to the raw intensity of Trombone Shorty and the soulful spirit of Nai Palm, the night offered something special for every kind of music lover.
It wasn’t just about performances—it was about joy, community, and the unifying power of music.
