I’m home now and Bluesfest 2019 Day 6 is done. It was going to be a kind of light day as Jessie Reyez and Elle King unfortunately had to cancel their sets. There were a few schedule movements, but the show must go on and we were there to catch it all.
Nice thing about the day is the humidity isn’t crazy and the sun was going to be setting soon enough.
Ellie Gadzos – Bluesfest 2019 – Day 6
First up for the day is Ellie Gadzos.
This young star on the rise won the She’s the One competition at Bluesfest last year.
She has a very unique style to her taking influences from Billie Eilish and her music career is on the rise.
This was the opening spot for the day, so the fans weren’t out in droves but the ones that were there were loving it.
You can tell Ellie is fairly new to a big stage, but she is getting the hang of things very quickly. Looking forward to hearing more from her as it comes out.
Garçons
Garçons is next on the VideoTron stage. This duo had a very interesting stage kit set up with a plant and lawn chairs.
Deelo took the mic and started the smooth soulful song. Fans were eating it up. He continued on to flex his vocal chops and you instantly kind of went “Wow”.
Julian followed along on the keys and when Deelo stood up from his chair things just kept getting more exciting.
This one was a surprise for me and even left us photographers talking about it after we left. Good job boys looking forward to more.
Crook The Kid
Crook the Kid came to town all the way from the North West Territories.
This young man was a new comer to most people here but we were excited to check him out. Personally, I think we would have done better on the VideoTron stage.
Early time slots on the big stage tend to not always bring a bigger crowd so the smaller stage would have hit home more.
That being said Crook came to play. He rocked every inch of the stage and got the crowd pumping. Crook has a relatively smooth flow and some good lyrics, and he hits those punches every chance he gets.
He brought out local EMC Cody Coyote. I am familiar with Cody and he always brings it when he hits the stage.
Good show overall and for sure looking out for this one.
The Devil Makes Three
Headed over to the Bluesville stage to catch The Devil Makes Three.
I didn’t know anything about this act at the time but quickly found out that it was a Blue Grass/Delta Blues band. Not many know this about me, but I sure do love a good banjo.
This trio was obviously well liked as the tent filled out pretty fast. There was even a fan with a sign saying one of their songs was actually his wedding song, how cool it that.
The band picked out and started rocking out and which had everyone dancing and singing along. I was pretty into this band right away and plan on looking them up for more tunes.
Yonatan Gat & The Eastern Medicine Singers
Up next on the City Stage is Yonatan Gat & The Eastern Medicine Singers and Ryan was there to catch it.
This was a very unique one to say the least.
The Eastern Medicine singers started out by performing a traditional song and dance while Yonatan Gat and the rest of the band joined them on stage.
They had a very interesting mix of traditional and rock music. There was even a doubled neck guitar for extra rock power!
Interesting show to say the least.
Logic – Bluesfest 2019 – Day 6
With the changes to the schedule we now have a double headliner time slot.
First up is Logic and Ryan being on deck. Logic is the big introduction of hip-hop into the festival.
One of the most notable points was the interaction with the fans. Logic made everyone turn to their neighbour and say hi because “We are all family here”.
He made sure to rock out some of his most iconic tracks including Homicide ft Eminem. His stage set up was fairly simple except the batch of lights that would rotate to give each song a little something different.
Might not have been the most packed show but it certainly had some dedicated fans there.
The Sheepdogs – Bluesfest 2019 – Day 6
The Sheepdogs are the other closer for the night on the VideoTron stage.
This one was just as filled with fans as the City stage if not more. This Juno award winning Canadian band knows how to rock a stage.
We have all heard some of these tracks on the radio but there is nothing like a live show. They rocked out and the fans danced and sang along.
There was some epic double necked guitar solos and some great rock and roll lighting.
All in all, this was a pretty sweet show and a good way to close out the night.
Bluesfest 2019 Day 6 might not have been the most epic day, but it was filled with some great shows. We are looking forward to day 7 with DJ Pauly D!
