Napster x Metallica
Napster x Metallica

Any of you readers remember Napster? Well if you are old enough to remember this program and the legal battles that stemmed from it. It was this week in music, on this day, in 2000 where Lars Ulrich from Metallica became the first witness to testify at a U.S Senate hearing over copyright law issues.

Napster was one of the first ever music file sharing services and many musicians felt as if they were losing out on some revenue.

Listeners would not necessarily need to go out and buy albums anymore since it was free to download online.

DMX

DMX was arrested in Trinidad on this date back in 1999.

Close your eyes and come up with 3 charges that you think may have been the cause for the arrest.

Assault, public intoxication? Possession of a dangerous weapon? Drugs? It was actually for using foul language during his live performance.

That’s F*&ked Up.

Robin Wilson - This Week in Music Vol 11
Robin Wilson

Lead singer of the Gin Blossoms, Robin Wilson, turns 54 today.

Not sure who the Gin Blossoms are? I’d bet my last dollar that you have heard at least one of their songs if you grew up in the 90’s.

The band doesn’t get the credit they deserve in my opinion. Terribly underrated.

Sadly on this date back in 1973, The Everly Brothers announced that had broken up.

Nobody fights like brothers, and it showed on this fateful night in Hollywood.

Don Everly had shown up drunk and his brother Phil had enough.

He smashed his guitar over Don’s head and announced that they would never perform together again. (Until 1983 more specifically, but that is just hindsight)

Happy birthday to folk legend Woody Guthrie who would have turned 107 if he were still alive today.
