This Week in Music starts all about the composers. It was on this date back in 2003 that Beethoven’s final manuscript for his 9th symphony was sold for an incredible 3.4 million dollars.

I don’t think we need to remind the readers that Beethoven was almost completely deaf while composing this masterwork piece of music.

Sticking on theme of composers, Wilhelm Richard Wager was born back on this date in 1813.

For those wondering, that would have made him 206 years old today.

On this date back in 2000, Eminem released the Marshal Mathers LP.

As we know, went on to be his most successful selling album and often regarded as one of the greatest rap albums of all time.


Rosemary Clooney
Rosemary Clooney

Happy Birthday to singer/actress Rosemary Clooney who would have turned 91 today.
Sadly she passed away back in 2002 at the age of 74 due to lung cancer.
For those wondering, she was the aunt of George Clooney.

On this day back in either 1979 or 1980 that Genesis actually manned their own box office and sold tickets to their own benefit show at The Roxy Theater in L.A.

Glad there was a point in time where some of the band members didn’t have such a huge ego.

Robert Zimmerman, better known as Bob Dylan, was born on this date in 1941. Today we celebrate his 78th birthday.

Hands Across America - This Week in Music
Hands Across America

A public event entitled Hands Across America took place on this date in 1986, with multiple celebrities taking part in the event, including many musicians.

The idea was to have everyone holding hands for fifteen minutes and forming a link which would cross the entire United States of America. The event raised approximately 15 Million for the hungry and homeless.

Former lead singer of Canadian band Three Days Grace, Adam Gontier, turns 41 today.

This Week in Music – May 26th

John Lennon and Yoko Ono held their second Bed-In for Peace event in Montreal Canada. They were unable to travel to New York due to John’s cannabis conviction, and decided The Bahamas was too hot.

It was on this date in 1977 where controversial punk band The Sex Pistols released their single God Save The Queen.
Due to the lyrical content of the song, it was quickly banned by BBC and the Independent Broadcasting Authority. The song was released during the Queen’s Silver Jubilee.

44 years ago today, the world was blessed with the arrival of Andre Benjamin.
He is one half of the Rap Duo, Outkast along with Big Boi.

It was on this date in 1987 that Whitney Houston released her debut follow up to Whitney Houston with the album Whitney. Although it was not as successful as her debut album, which was certified Diamond with over 25 million album sales worldwide, it was still enormously successful selling over 20 million albums worldwide.

I can’t get you out of my head! Pop princess Kylie Minogue turns 51 today if you can believe it. She doesn’t look a day over 49.
